Der Zauber der Erschöpfung und die Lust am Wagnis

The race includes two routes with timed special stages and free-running transfer sections as well as a cycle touring route.

The event includes four routes: two routes with timed special stages and free-paced transfer sections exclusively for gravel bikes, as well as two cycling tourism routes open to any type of bike.

The rules of the event, affiliated with and promoted by A.C.S.I., adhere to the National Amateur Sector Implementation Standards of F.C.I.

All participants are required to carefully read the following regulations before registering.

ARTICLE 1 – GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT

NOVA EROICA will take place on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in Castel del Monte, L’Aquila, Italy.

The event offers two competitive routes with timed special stages and free-paced transfer sections, and two cycling tourism routes.

In this regulation, NOVA EROICA will also be referred to as the Event, the Manifestation, or the Race.

ARTICLE 2 – BICYCLES

Nova Eroica is a cycling event for gravel bikes, but road bikes and cyclocross bikes with steel, titanium, or aluminum frames are also permitted. For the 2025 edition, mountain bikes and e-bikes are exceptionally allowed, though they cannot participate in the timed stages.

Gravel bikes must have drop handlebars. Gravel bikes must also meet the following criteria: tires with a minimum width of 32 mm and disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels.

2.1 Definition of a Gravel Bike

A gravel bike frame derives from a cyclocross frame, as extensively defined by F.C.I. The differences between a CX frame and a gravel bike are:

Bottom bracket height: 27.5/28 mm

Head tube higher by an average of 1.5/3 cm

Head tube angle: greater than 70°

Rear stays and fork wide enough to accommodate wheels up to 50 mm (common wheels: 700x32/40 or 560bx40)

Disc brakes: 140/160 mm

Internal cable routing

Steel/carbon frame (aluminum in some cases)

1x or 2x drivetrain (e.g., Campagnolo Ekar, Shimano GRX, or SRAM Force)

Drop handlebars

ARTICLE 3 – ROUTES AND STARTS

NOVA EROICA Gran Sasso features 4 routes:

Long Route: "Terre della Baronia e Campo Imperatore" (132 km) for gravel bikes, with two competitive sections.

Medium Route: "Giro del Gran Sasso" (92 km) for road bikes, with only asphalt roads, ideal for cycling tourism.

Medium Route: "Giro dei Borghi e piana di Campo Imperatore" (80 km) for gravel bikes, with one competitive section.

Short Route: "Giro della Rocca di Calascio" (60 km) for cycling tourism.

Competitive routes include free-paced transfer sections and timed special stages, while the cycling tourism route is entirely free-paced.

The routes will be marked with arrows, but participants must rely on GPS tracks and timing charts available on the website www.novaeroica.it.

The organization guarantees the presence of a start and end-of-race vehicle to ensure route security.

All participants will start at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, in Castel del Monte, AQ.
