The beauty of fatigue and the thrill of conquest

A concrete commitment to the future

The Eroica for the Environment project was created to gather and highlight all the initiatives that demonstrate Eroica’s commitment to sustainability and to caring for a unique territory that is admired worldwide.

L’Eroica is already, by its very nature, a model of circular economy: vintage bicycles, retro clothing, recovered and reused spare parts.

But the commitment goes beyond the ride itself: year after year, thanks to the involvement of the Eroica community and partnerships based on shared values, Eroica has become an example of a sustainable sporting event, capable of combining passion, social revitalization, and environmental stewardship.

Environmental initiatives of the 28th edition

  1. Recycling at refreshment points. In collaboration with Sei Toscana, there will be dedicated bins for plastic, paper, and unsorted waste, along with awareness campaigns on proper waste management.
  2. Adopt a Kilometer. Thanks to a partnership with Terre Cablate, local associations from the 17 municipalities crossed by the permanent routes of L’Eroica and Eroica Montalcino will take care of the maintenance of 290 km of gravel roads.
  3. Race bib made of recycled fabric. Produced by Roy Roger’s with recycled materials and printed with eco-friendly inks. For 2025, the project is further enriched by the collaboration with the Meyer Foundation.
  4. UCI Climate action charter. L’Eroica adheres to the International Cycling Union’s Climate Action Charter, committing to reduce CO₂ emissions from its events by 2030, thus contributing to sustainable cycling.
  5. Sustainable cycling manifesto. Created in 2024 together with MASE – the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security – it features 10 small actions for the environment, serving as a guide that reminds us how the bicycle is nature’s best friend.
  6. Sustainability manual. During the festival days of the 28th edition, the Eroica Italia Sustainability Manual will be presented, an operational tool for the responsible management of events.
  7. Eroica Academy – 5th Edition. The team will be engaged in training new professionals dedicated to managing sustainable sporting events and developing the green jobs of the future.

Event sustainability criteria

  • Energy from renewable sources: all electricity supplies are certified green.
  • Local products: refreshment points offer local specialties, promoting short supply chains.
  • Durable race pack: made from reusable materials, it includes organic food and wine products, a reusable water bottle, and materials linked to the event experience.

Riding for a better world

With Eroica for the Environment, the 28th edition reaffirms its commitment to demonstrating that sport is not only about passion and culture but also about caring for the planet and taking responsibility for future generations.
